The EL Story

Revolutionising Legal Practice Beyond Tradition

Starting out with the audacious goal of 'doing law better'

Enterprise Legal Queensland was co-founded in 2017 by Sharné Lategan and current owner and Managing Director, Peta Gray

In a local market saturated by traditional law firms, Peta and Sharne felt like the majority of lawyers were simply ‘going through the motions’ and doing things ‘the way that they had always been done’ for no other reason than simply that. It seemed to them that many lawyers had disconnected from the purpose of lawyering, which in their view, was (and is) to ultimately obtain the best outcome for their clients.

Peta and Sharne felt that clients, especially those located outside of the capital cities, deserved better from their lawyers and they set about starting Enterprise Legal with the audacious goal of ‘doing the law better’.

Transparent, strategic legal advice for business, property and disputes

From its inception, Enterprise Legal has offered specialised Business, Property and Disputes legal services of the highest quality, with a focus on delivering practical and commercially-savvy outcomes. Peta and Sharné focussed on telling their clients what they needed to hear, not what they wanted to hear. Their clients took this surprisingly well, because Peta and Sharné never presented a problem without an accompanying strategy to address it. They were upfront and transparent. They worked with clients to develop legal strategies that met their values, needs and budgets. Most importantly, they continually educated their clients on why legal services should be proactive and not reactive. It turned out that clients loved their approach.

Pretty soon, Enterprise Legal was experiencing exponential year-on-year growth and making big impacts within both the local market and more widely throughout Queensland and Australia. In 2018, Enterprise Legal was named the Best Regional & Suburban Law Firm in Australia and in 2019, Legal Services Provider of the Year at the Australian Small Business Champion Awards.

Adapting, growing and supporting through unprecedented times

2020 brought some challenging times for both Enterprise Legal and their clients, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. During this time, the Firm provided an unprecedented amount of free legal advice and resources to its clients and the general public, in an effort to assist them to navigate the ever-changing legal landscape that the pandemic brought with it.

This gesture did not go unnoticed within the community and as business slowly returned to ‘the new normal’, Enterprise Legal’s growth once again continued to pick up pace, requiring them to move to a new, custom-built office to house their growing team. The office space, which was one of the first truly metropolitan office fit-outs in Toowoomba, even inspired the iconic Level 8 Gin.

Enterprise Legal expands as a Founding Firm of the Better Lawyers Group

After four years at their Russell Street office, it was once again time for the Enterprise Legal team to move to a bigger location - this time due to Enterprise Legal’s role as one of the foundation Firms within the Better Lawyers Group (BLG).

BLG was created in 2024 by Peta Gray as an identifiable brand that clients throughout Australia can trust across all areas of law, knowing that BLG Firms have excellence and client-focussed outcomes at the core of what they do. Enterprise Legal was proud to join forces with Donaldson Law.
